Welcome to Fifth Grade!
Welcome to Mrs. Slot’s fifth grade class. Fifth grade is an exciting year with much learning and growing.
Faith is such a special aspect of all areas within our school. Students increase their faith knowledge in fifth grade by learning about the seven sacraments. Attending Mass and Adoration also helps students increase their spirituality. We practice our faith with our kind deeds and helpful acts. We love having the ability to pray and remember God is with us as we go throughout our day.
All the subjects are challenging in the fifth grade. This year students have already started to learn about decimals and their value. Before too long they will be using all four math operations with decimals. For language arts this year students learn about how to use grammar and spelling properly and then they are able to use those skills writing many different genres. Reading interesting stories is always a great part of fifth grade. I also read aloud to the students every day, it is my favorite part of the day! The students enjoy it, many students realize that they have found a new genre of stories they enjoy. Social studies this year will teach the students about how our country was founded.
For those of you who don’t know me, here is a little about myself. I have taught for over 30 years in a variety of grades. I have my BS degree in elementary education, and my MS degree in counseling. I am a CT certified teacher. I have two grown daughters and I live in Cheshire.
“I love going to school at Saint Bridget’s because everyone is so nice and I learn a lot of new things every day.”
“Saint Bridget is a great school because we have a nice new principal and nice teachers. All my friends are here.”
