The season of Lent is quickly approaching. We will be attending the Stations of the Cross weekly. We will learn about the sacrifice Jesus made for us. We will talk about good deeds we can do or sacrifices we can make to help us grow closer to Jesus. We will learn that prayer is a way we can talk to and listen to God. Finally, we will learn about the Last Supper
During the month of February we will be reading a classic fairy tale, and a non-fiction story, and two fantasy stories. We will be working on the sounds of G and short e. We will also begin working on initial blends. We will continue to learn about verbs. We will also continue to learn about the subject (naming part) and predicate (action part) of a sentence.
We will work on classifying and categorizing. We will also be working on identifying the main idea of a story and the plot. We will review character and setting. Please continue to practice the Word Wall words at home with your child. Our new words for the month are: one, two, three, four, five, here, go, from
This month we will learn to compare set of up to 20 to find the difference between the two sets. We will also compare the countable sets by using the terms fewer and more, and the uncountable sets using the terms more and less. These activities will increase our awareness of addition and subtraction. We will use these and additional strategies throughout the remainder of the year.
The 100th day of school is nearing our calendars very soon! Since Day 1, the children have been performing many mathematical tasks built around the concept of “adding one for each day in school.” The 100th day is both a mathematical landmark and a cause for celebration! Due to the snow day and other activities, we will celebrate the 100th day on Monday, February 12th.
Here are a few ideas to keep you busy on a winter day!
- Keep a journal to write about what happens in your day
- Write cards and notes to people that you love
- Writing and counting to 30

- Recognizing Pennies, Nickels, Dimes, and Quarters
- Using vowels in words
- Notice ending punctuation
- Discuss character, setting and plot of a story
