Dear Parents,
Welcome to first grade!
Here is some important information about our class:
Weekly specials
Monday: Library
Wednesday: Gym
Thursday: Music
Friday: Art, Spanish
Our class will also be using the computer lab 2-3 times a week.
Drop-Off: Riders will be dropped off at the rear of the school. Teachers and staff will be there to ensure a safe arrival. Children on the bus will be dropped off at the “dining hall”. Teachers and staff will also be there to ensure a safe arrival and Safety Patrollers will bring the children down the hall to the classroom.
Pick-Up: Teachers will bring Riders outside through the office doors. Please wait out there and your child will come out according to last names. Children on the bus will be brought to the “dining hall” where they will wait in bus sections for their bus to come.
Recess/Lunch: We will be going outside for recess every day, weather permitting. The students will then go straight to the “dining hall” to our designated spot. We will be eating in the “dining hall” everyday. Peanut butter is fine to be eaten at lunch as we have a peanut butter free table where students with allergies can sit.
Homework: Homework will be given every night, except for Friday, to reinforce skills presented in class and to make corrections on class work. Please monitor your child’s homework time as well as assignments.
Reading: In addition to the homework, children should be reading for at least 15 minutes a day. Please ask your child questions about what they have read in order to check for understanding. Students will bring home a monthly reading calendar. Please initial and record the amount of time on each day that your child read or is read to. The reading calendar should remain in the home folder so I can look at them.
Notes: If there is any change in your child’s normal dismissal please send a note to school so I can make sure that your child gets home the right way. If money is being sent to school for any reason, please put it in an envelope and mark it with your child’s name and what it is for.
Home folders: Please check you child’s home folder every night for any notes or corrected work.
Book orders: I will be sending home the Scholastic Book Club order forms at the beginning of each month. If you would like to order anything please send in the order form and a check in an envelope with your child’s name on it by the date on the form. Checks should be made out to Scholastic Book Club.
Birthdays: Your child may bring in a treat or goody bags to celebrate his/her birthday with the class. We will celebrate birthdays in the afternoon.
Snack: We will have a short snack time in the afternoon everyday except early dismissal days. Please send in a small, healthy snack if your child would like a snack.

- 1 zippered pencil pouch
- Pencils (box of 12 with #2 lead, please have them sharpened)
- 1 pair small pointed scissors that truly cut
- 3 laminated pocket folders with BOTTOM pocket
- 1 box of crayons no larger than 24 count
- 1 package of large pink erasers
- 1 palette tray of water colors
- 3 bound thick marble journal books (NOT SPIRAL) 1/2 ” Primary
- 1 set of 8-12 count markers (washable-not fine point)
- 12 glue sticks (not purple)
- 1 box of tissues
- 1 box of wipes
- Art smock (oversized old shirt) for art class
- Backpack (no wheels)
