  May *** June***2010

Our Kindergarten year is coming to a close.  What a great trip we have had!

The children are enjoying more outside time.  Their attention frequently flies out our large picture window and we focus on God’s beautiful Spring Season Beyond the classroom.

In our religion lessons, we are concluding our faith series and learning about the Mass and our role in God's Church. Please try to attend Mass with your children.  You are the primary teachers; we can only supplement your work!

Remember, the children may wear their uniform shorts, (with belts and shirts tucked in!) and they may continue to wear their sneakers on Thursdays.

Miss Jocelyn is teaching them recess with movement  from 9:30-10:00a.m., every week.  This is a great outlet for some of that spring fever, as well as helping them have fun!  On warm Fridays, the children may wear their gym shorts to school.

In Language Arts, we are finishing our alphabet and adding many new High Frequency words to our repertoire, ( for, me, one, little, are and here). The children are writing and reading each day and usually can “share” their work with their class.  Many children are exploring different writing programs in the primary computer lab.  Their stories and special effects are very creative!  Our literature unit centers on neighborhoods and our neighborhood helpers which coincides with our social studies unit on careers and jobs. Our stories, songs and poems are such fun.

Our Cinco de Mayo celebration was alot of fun and we made music(noise) and paraded around the school. We are learning about Memorial Day and singing patriotic songs and poems.  If you can view the Cheshire parade on Sunday 5/30, our school float is participating.  You and your child can help build the float, as well. Our most special patriotic event takes place on Flag Day, June 14th.  The school has a wonderful program dedicated to our flag and the men and women who served our nation.

Everyone has sent in orders for play day June 7th, picnic lunch.  Thank you.  If you can volunteer for any or all of that day, it is fun for the children and adults alike and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Concerts, plays and special programs abound.  We are busy, busy, busy!  Our "Matter" program was wonderful on Tuesday, May 25th.  Our class sat in front and many of our students were "assistants" to the scientist.    We look forward to a play put on by our eighth graders during their last week of school.  We say "Good-bye" to our graduates on Thursday, June 10th, and our 5th graders receive their middle school ties shortly before that time.  So many traditions surround our end of the year activities.

Remember, if your child has a summer birthday that you would like us to celebrate, please let me know and we will schedule their special day!

May God bless you and your families,
