STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

The goal of the athletic department is to conduct a wholesome and worthwhile program which is consistent with and contributes to the basic philosophy of St. Bridget School.  As an integral part of the total education process, St. Bridget athletics makes a significant contribution to the personal growth and development of the participants.  To this end we strive to increase the students’ knowledge, contribute to the maturity, teach moral and ethical values, and motivate them in the pursuit of excellence so we can produce individuals who realize their self-worth and reach their full potential.

Our dedicated coaches are very much aware of their obligations and responsibilities as extremely visible representatives of St. Bridget School.  They are cognizant of the tremendous influence their position wields and will continually strive to instill the highest desirable ideals and character traits in our student athletes.

While the athletic program serves as an arena for student athletes to display their talents, student athletes must in turn be willing to assume certain responsibilities, namely:

  • To strive to achieve sound citizenship, emotional control, honesty, cooperation, dependability, and respect for others and their ability
  • To show respect for both authority and property
  • To achieve academic success and to keep athletics in proper perspective
  • To obey the rules in the Student-Parent
  • To demonstrate proper school and community citizenship at all times
  • To display exemplary conduct on and off the field of play
  • To show respect for fellow athletes and spectators, showing good sportsmanship at all times
  • To stress the importance of physical fitness, conditioning, health habits and safety in athletics
  • To learn dedication, hard work and responsibility
  • To desire excellence, and
  • To provide opportunities to develop lasting friendships with teammates and opponents
